In unfortunate news, Del Cielo has announced the end of their collaboration. In these difficult times their release catalogue of the two full lengths and varying 7’s and compilations is equally, if not more so, matched by their outstanding ethics and activism in both local and national communities. Aside from extensive touring and writing, the band, collectively and as individuals, continuously dedicated themselves to varying benefits, women’s rights organizations, and political causes. With this disbanding comes the loss of a not only a wonderful musical endeavor, but a sadly,
a dwindling punk ethos of using the entity of a band as a means of activism
and philanthropy.
Katy Otto, their drummer released the following statement:
"In the past four and a half years, Del Cielo has surpassed what any of the three of us thought our band would be. It’s been an honor to travel around the country and meet people. Our band has existed through turbulent political times as well, and our final show as a rock for choice event (Saturday, September 23 Richmond, VA VOX ROX at VCU with Bellafea and Ben Davis) seems fitting given our two most recent Supreme Court vacancies.. It’s been so fun and we are lucky to have had this experience!"
Basla, Andrea, and Katy please know that your work is celebrated and will be thoroughly missed by everyone involved with Lovitt Records.
